Easiest VPN EverIn my spare time, I like to play online games like: Generals Zero Hour and Supreme Commander with family and friends. The biggest problem always seemed to be the availability and the reliability of the Generals server. Solution set up a VPN for all my chums to login to and play on my "local" LAN. Unfortunately when you check into setting these things up they work but all seem to have drawbacks or are hard to setup. I had looked into a Windows Xp VPN, and a few other free tools that either did not work or they worked but we could not connect in the game. I was about to give up when I came across http://www.logmein.com - WOW that was easy (picture me pressing the big red easy button here!). Logmein has a free package called 'hamachi' that allows you to setup 64, yes 64, VPNs for free that each have 16 users. and it's as easy as installing a package and reading about one page of documentation to be up and running. All the games I tried seem to work and the VPNs even allow you to share files, printers, etc, etc,... BTW, the hamachi servers are only used initially to connect the parties and all that data transmissions between parties is encrypted so you can have peace of mind. For larger applications, such as a small company VPN (more than 16 employees), hamachi has a pay version which I believe is very very reasonnable at about $30 USD per seat... Remember no installation, no maintenance, no administrator - just a quick and easy VPN!! OH and did I forget to mention that it is almost as easy to setup and run on linux (of course you need a few command line skills and access to the 'root' accont but the docs are sooooooooo easy to follow that even a child can do it. They also have a MAC OS-X version that I have not tried but should be as easy and useful.... Visit their site now (http://www.logmein.com), you will not be disappointed. Paul A. Fortin
