Installing IBM Electronic Service Agent

Installing the Electronic Service Agent (5.20) on a Linux System running SuSE entreprise Linux has proven more that fun. I will assume here that you have directro installed on some machine and that you also have the ESA piece of the director server installed.  If you I will most likely write an article on this in the future....

So here is the procedure,

At the machine that will be callng "home" for repairs:

  1. copy the "agent" directory from the Director 5.20 CD to the system being installed.
  2. 'cd' to the 'agent/linux/i386/FILES/' directory
  3. run the installer with the following command: 'sh dir5.20_agent_linux.sh'
  4. execute the following command: '/opt/ibm/director/bin/twgstart'

That complete the "install" as such but now you need to get the director server to recognize the new machine and also setup the phone home option...

  1. Load the Director 5.20 Console at the server or at your desktop!
  2. Do a discovery of All Level-2 Agents (see pic)
  3. Once the system is displayed in the middle pane you need to do a "grant access" to it - for best results use the root/administrator username and password.
  4. Once that is done the system is being tracked by the director server and can now be registered to the "phone home" option.
  5. Doing this is simple, just drag and drop two tasks on the new system, the "tasks" are "Electronic Service Manually Subscribed
  6. Once this is done, right click on the new system and select "Electronic Service"
  7. Make sure that the "" is enables and click ok

  8. You are done, a new system can now "phone home"
